logon allocation failure

Postby jkzup » Mon 25 May 2020, 15:29

I cannot log on to TSO. When I attempt a logon I get a message “LOGON FAILED ALLOCATION UNSUCCESSFUL” followed by “ENTER LOGON OR LOGOFF-” and my entering “LOGON” to try again leads to the same “ALLOCATION UNSUCCESSFUL” situation.

Thank you for your attention.

We know, but we (Steve Myers, Prino) don't know why. We have informed "sfan", you might want to also send him a PM, as he's (probably) the only one who can resolve the issue, which may well be a problem with the underlying hardware.

The messages we have seen appear to decode to an issue with the master catalog. As prino says, it may be a hardware issue, though I'm inclined to doubt that. What I fear suggests a problem with the underlying format - remember that Hercules emulates the mainframe count-key-data disk architecture in the PC type disk - in the disk. How that happened I cannot guess. The only other cause for the messages you have seen that I know about is a a JCL error in the logon procedure.

I successfully logged on this afternoon (6-16-20) — system is up!

Thank you, sfan!
